Each Intake Sponsorship helps provide a safe and secure environment for our guests and volunteers as we register guests for their overnight stay. This sponsorship covers the fees for a Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office deputy to conduct background checks, as well as baggage and clothing searches. It also helps cover costs of snacks, drinks, and supplies provided during intake.

In the event that someone is unable, or chooses not, to stay with Home Free Haven, we provide essential supplies before the person leaves our intake location.

Home Free Haven provides a large amount of supplies, including hygiene supplies, clothing, sleeping bags, etc., to our guests when needed. We also make available a selection of snacks, drinks, card and board games, and computers, to ensure our guests are comfortable in their shelter environment. This sponsorship helps cover these costs so we can make sure our guests enjoy their time with Home Free Haven.

We also from time to time need to replace cots, linens, pillows, etc., as well as having the linens from an overnight stay professionally laundered. The Supplies Sponsorships also help covers those costs.

On a nightly basis, Home Free Haven is transporting guests using our bus and van, as well as Tara and Will’s personal vehicles on occasion. Each of these vehicles incurs a considerable amount of expenses such as fuel, tires, routine maintenance, insurance, and taxes. Our bus is also used during intake as a makeshift mobile intake center. The Transportation Sponsorships help cover all of the costs associated with the vehicles used by Home Free Haven during the Winter Shelter Program.

Each morning after hosting our guests, we provide a nutritious breakfast to start the day off on a positive note. Many of our guests do not know if they will get another meal before staying with us again. We want to ensure they are as well fed as possible before leaving the shelter environment. A Breakfast Sponsorship helps cover the costs of food, drinks, plates, utensils, etc., for an average of 25 people. 

Upon arrival at our host church facility, we serve our guests an excellent dinner with menus that have been coordinated with previous nights to ensure a consistent variety of options are offered. On most nights, dinner is where the socialization that is so key to a comfortable shelter environment begins. Therefore, we place a great deal of importance on a successful dinner service. The Dinner Sponsorships help cover the costs of food, drinks, plates, utensils, etc., for an average of 25 people.

Each night that Home Free Haven hosts guests, we must have two Hospitality Coordinators covering overnight shifts from 10pm-7am. The Hospitality Coordinators supervise the shelter environment to make sure each guest has everything they need to enjoy a restful night. Finding volunteers that are willing to cover the overnight shifts is extremely difficult. With this in mind, Home Free Haven is anticipating the need to pay overnight workers. An Overnight Support Sponsorship covers the costs for two overnight workers to cover one night at the host church.

The Winter Shelter Program is Home Free Haven’s flagship program. From November 15 – March 15, we will partner with Shoals area churches to provide shelter, support, and hope for the unhoused and underserved individuals of the Shoals.
