About Home Free Haven

Where it all began

A Mission of Compassion

Home Free Haven was created in memory and honor of Cody Benjamin Cozart, a U.S. Navy veteran, who in his brief life made impacts on others that are long lasting and far reaching. Despite tumultuous days struggling to cope with life’s experiences, Cody selflessly set examples of how we should treat those around us.

It is in the spirit of love, compassion, and caring, which was deeply embedded in Cody, that the leadership, volunteers, partners, and donors of Home Free Haven embrace our mission of providing shelter, support, and hope for the unhoused and underserved population of the Shoals Area.

Welcoming of Everyone

We open our hearts to individuals from all walks of life. We believe in the power of diversity and strive to create a space where everyone feels valued and respected. We recognize the inherent worth and dignity of every person.

Caring Without Judgement

Compassion is our guiding principle. We provide support without passing judgement on anyone’s past or present circumstances. We strive to create a space where everyone feels supported by recognizing that each person’s journey is unique and deserving of empathy.

Creating a Circle of Support

We go beyond providing temporary shelter by building a strong network of support for our home free friends. Through shared experiences, activities, and mutual support, we encourage the development of genuine bonds that uplift and empower individuals on their path to a brighter future.

An Approach Focused on Individuals

Meet people where they are

We understand that some individuals may not always be ready for the support we offer. We recognize that taking the first step to seek support can be daunting, and we empathize with the challenges our friends may face in doing so. We aim to meet people where they are, providing a supportive environment where individuals can embark on their journey toward stability at their own pace, one step at a time.

Navigate resources

Recognizing the complexity of accessing resources, we offer hands-on support to help our home free friends navigate available services effectively. Our dedicated team collaborates closely with individuals, providing guidance, information, and practical assistance to access housing, healthcare, job opportunities, addiction treatment, and other essential services.

Provide targeted support

We offer individualized support to address the needs of each person. We strive to address the underlying causes of homelessness and empower individuals to rebuild their lives. Whether someone is experiencing homelessness for the first time or facing long-term struggles, we provide tailored support and resources to address immediate needs and facilitate their journey toward stability.
